Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Life Companion ("the app", "we", "us") handles your data. Life Companion is built to be private by default. Your journal entries, tasks, habits, and mood data stay on your device unless you explicitly opt into cloud sync.

1. Who we are

Life Companion is developed by d-tailed. The company is based in Brazil; the app is distributed internationally. Contact: support@d-tailed.com.

2. What data the app handles

Data stored on your device only (default)

All of the following is stored locally in an on-device SQLite database and never leaves your device unless you export a backup or enable cloud sync:

• Journal entries (purpose, ideas, goals) and their content
• Tasks, subtasks, due dates, and status
• Habits and completion history
• Notes
• Mood entries
• Life areas
• Companion state (name, personality, stage, XP)
• App preferences and settings
• AI-generated embeddings (used locally for semantic search and connection discovery)

Data processed in the cloud (only if you opt into sync)

If you create an account and enable cloud sync (a premium feature), the following is transmitted to and stored on our backend provider, Supabase:

• Your email address (used solely for authentication)
• All of the on-device data listed above (so it can sync across your devices)

Sync is entirely optional. If you never sign in, no data ever leaves your device.

Data we do NOT collect

• No advertising identifiers
• No analytics or telemetry
• No third-party trackers
• No location
• No contacts, photos, messages, calendar, or camera access
• No behavioural data shared with anyone

Microphone / voice capture

The app requests microphone access only for the optional voice-capture button. Audio is transcribed by your device's built-in speech recognition service (provided by Android or iOS and subject to your device's speech settings); the app receives only the resulting text and never records, stores, or transmits audio itself.

3. How your data is used

• Locally: to provide the app's core functionality.
• In the cloud (if enabled): solely to sync your data across devices. We do not analyse, share, sell, or repurpose your data.

4. AI / machine learning

Life Companion runs a small sentence-embedding model entirely on your device. Your text is never sent to a third-party AI service.

5. Where your data is stored

• On your device: in a SQLite database within app storage.
• In the cloud (if you enable sync): on Supabase's infrastructure, with encryption in transit via HTTPS and at rest. See Supabase's privacy policy.

6. Sharing

We do not share, sell, or rent your personal data to anyone. The only third party that processes your data is Supabase, and only if you enable cloud sync.

If you contact support from the app, the email may include a diagnostics file (recent app errors, app version, OS version). It is attached to the draft in your own mail app, where you can review or remove it before anything is sent. Nothing is transmitted without you pressing send.

7. Your rights

• Export your full data as a JSON file (Settings → Data → Export Data).
• Delete all local data by uninstalling the app (everything lives in the app's own storage and is removed with it).
• Delete your cloud account and data in-app: Settings → Account → Delete account (this also clears the data on the device). Cloud data is removed immediately; residual copies in provider backups expire within 30 days. See Delete your data for the full path.
• Stop sync by signing out — your local data remains.

If you are in the EU or UK, you have GDPR rights (access, rectification, erasure, portability, objection). If you are in Brazil, you have LGPD rights. Contact us to exercise any of these rights.

8. Data retention

• Local data stays on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app.
• Cloud data is retained while your account is active. On account deletion, all cloud data is permanently removed within 30 days.

9. Children

Life Companion is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

10. Security

Industry-standard encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS). Supabase handles encryption at rest for cloud-synced data. On-device data is protected by the operating system's app sandboxing.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy to reflect changes in the app or in law. The date at the top indicates the last revision. Material changes will be announced in-app.
